The music business has changed drastically since the yesteryears of old. No longer are the majority of artists able to sustain a living simply by releasing music to online digital music stores for the masses to buy, or allowing fans to stream music online at every turn. I've even heard stories about artists and bands going on tour, only to break even. Another issue I've researched are the countless websites that offer an array of 'services' for artists, in exchange for a [somewhat] modest fee up front without any guarantee of a return-on-investment.
What does this mean for us as artists? It means we have to innovate. What exactly are we innovating? An experience. I honestly think music fans are looking for an immersive and interactive experience with their favorite artists, not only at the venue during a live show, but also remotely when fans are on their computers and mobile devices. Let's face it - fans want to feel like they matter [and they should]!
